Riding 4 a Reason normally helps families affected by a major illness by hosting events. Beginning in March 2020, it seemed people gathering together put them at risk. We asked our supporters to take the precautions necessary to remain healthy and follow us here, and on Facebook and Instagram for future events and online promotions.
In the mean-time, we were asked to help medical personnel in the Porterville, California area. Staff was understaffed and overworked. We provided 2 meals per day at shift changes and water or Gatorade to prevent dehydration. We would like to thank all of our supporters who chipped in to help with this cause. When we started, the facility had over 60 patients who tested positive for Covid 19.
The medical professionals who worked with these patients had to adjust to new regulations while still providing extraordinary care. Some staff members also tested positive and were unable to work, which caused each shift to be short-staffed. We began delivering food to them on May 9, 2020 and continued until only a handful of positive Covid 19 cases remained in the facility.
At the time of this writing, there were other facilities still working under the same conditions. We urge anyone or any organization with the means to do so to reach out to a local nursing facility to help. We would like to thank our medical personnel during this very difficult time. You are our heroes!
We appreciate our supporters and donors! We look forward to being able to host and attend future events, and wish everyone the best of health and happiness.
